Interview with Lina Krasnoroutskaya (11 October 2000)
| It’s
really hard. I don’t know what happened. Match point and
I’m out of everything. I’m not on the court, I’m not
somewhere, I’m just... I didn’t know what to do so
that’s why I lost. Maybe later it’s going to be
better, I will still be on the court at match point, not
somewhere. |
| (Were you
satisfied that you were able to compete so well?) I
don’t know, I really don’t know. I’m just in that
condition that I’m not understanding anything. I can’t
understand who. |
| On the
first match point, I thought that it wasn’t out. I saw
that two balls weren’t out. I was surprised that the
umpire said it was in. Maybe two more points but not more. |
| I have
learned a lot in the past year. I have learned to fight,
to play better, to think, to play in the seniors. When you
play in the juniors it is very different between the
seniors and juniors. And that is what I learned. The
difference is in your heart, because when you are playing
juniors you play like a child and here everyone plays like
they are a woman. They think better, they can concentrate
in the very important points, so that is the difference. |
| I was born
in the Ukraine in 1984 (giggles). My mom was coaching
tennis, and my dad was a medical doctor. I started to play
tennis every day at 3. My first tournament was at 6, I won
my first tournament at 7 (giggles). I played in Russia. I
have a little brother, he also plays tennis. His name is
Alex. (Is he good?) Yes. (Better than you?) I hope so.

| I am
interested in school. I am trying to study. It’s really
hard, tennis and school. I have to go two more years. Then
I hope I will learn in a university or somewhere, because
I like to learn, I like to study. |
| (When asked
if she was serious about having her own television show)
It is serious. Yea. I don’t know yet, I didn’t think.
I have to learn how to do it so then I can decide what I
want and what I can do. Maybe a talk show or something. |
| I like
football, to play, not to watch. I like windsurfing. I
tried one year ago and really like it. What else? I played
golf – only once (giggles) just to try what it is. But
it is too hard for my back. And that’s all. |
| (What about
a boyfriend?) No+ No time. |
| I live in
Russia, near Moscow. The name of the city is Obminsk, and
it’s really nice, because I have everything I want: 24
hours to practice, to go to school, to have individual
programs in school, everything. |
| (You
didn’t shake hands after the match. Was that personal?)
I don’t know. I was a friend with her but it is her
business. I don’t mind what she is doing, I think God
will remember it for her. I don’t know what she thought,
but I already told you it’s not my business. |
| I have been
working with Larissa since Roland Garros this year.
She’s just helping me this year, but I am not sure
what’s going to be next year. She’s always with me and
I visit her and she visits me when I am in Russia and she
is in Latvia, and we are really good together. |
| I left
Ukraine when I was 6. We have some problems so that’s
why we leave. In Russia they sent an invitation to my mom
that we don’t have a coach so can you please go to
Russia and coach our children. My brother had a little bit
of problems with his health. He was sick so that’s why
we move. |
| You know
what. I just thought about it and I think that I started
to be more aggressive here. It’s not really good for me,
not for the game, for me, for myself. So I will do
everything I can to win next time. I don’t know if
it’s my maximum, but I think this game that I have now,
it is the best since I played tennis. I really enjoyed it
and I hope everything will go OK. |
| I never
look at the spectators, because I need to concentrate. I
felt it because they were so loud. |
